Navigating Identity with Crystal Kay & Ryan Alexander Holmes
For this project, we partnered with Uprisers to produce a live-to-tape, multi-camera recording of a panel conversation featuring Japanese pop icon Crystal Kay and community activist Ryan Alexander Holmes. Our objective was to capture the discussion with the polish of a live broadcast while creating a finished program that could continue serving the community well after the event concluded.
A live-to-tape workflow proved particularly well suited to the project. By switching cameras live during the discussion, we produced an edit that closely reflected the finished program as the event unfolded. This approach significantly reduced post-production time while maintaining the flexibility to make refinements before the final release, allowing organizers to share the conversation quickly while preserving a polished presentation.
For our team, projects like this represent some of the most meaningful work we have the opportunity to support. Community organizing depends on authentic dialogue, shared experiences, and the ability to bring people together around important ideas. By combining efficient live-to-tape production with a collaborative, low-profile crew, we were able to help preserve a conversation that continues to reach audiences beyond the walls of the venue.
