Hollywood Burlesque Festival Coverage
Each year, we partner with the Hollywood Burlesque Festival to provide multi-camera coverage of its three-day celebration of burlesque performance. Our responsibility is to capture the stage from multiple perspectives while producing a live edit in real time, allowing the client to receive finished video files at the conclusion of the festival rather than waiting through a lengthy post-production process.
The compressed schedule makes preparation particularly important. Because the venue only becomes available to our team on the first day of the festival, the complete camera and signal infrastructure must be installed while the event itself is moving toward opening. Camera positions, cable paths, video signals, monitoring, recording, and the central switching system all have to be established quickly and safely within an active performance environment.
The live-to-tape approach is especially effective for performance festivals. Traditionally, recording several cameras independently would leave the client with a substantial post-production project after the event. Every performance would need to be synchronized, reviewed, edited, exported, and organized before it could be distributed. By making those editorial decisions during the performance itself, much of that work is already complete when the curtain closes.
At the end of the festival, the resulting video files are delivered to the client and subsequently shared with the individual performers. That distribution significantly extends the reach of the event. Artists gain professionally captured material they can share with their own audiences, while every post helps amplify the festival itself. Instead of the event's visibility ending with the people in the venue, dozens of performers become additional points of distribution for the celebration.
Each year gives us an opportunity to refine the workflow. Lessons learned during one festival can become improvements in camera placement, infrastructure, communication, or delivery during the next. That accumulated knowledge allows the production to evolve alongside the event itself.
For recurring events, a long-term production partnership can ultimately become part of the infrastructure behind the show. The objective remains consistent each year: capture every performance reliably, deliver the material efficiently, and continually improve how we support the festival and the community that has grown around it.
